Service background
On 12 February 2021, the Standards Council of Australia published the Toy Safety standard AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2021, Toy Safety – Part 3: Migration of Specific Elements.
The standard was developed by the Joint Technical Committee CS-018- Children’s Toy Safety Group. It replaces AS/NZS 8124.3:2012 and AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2012 Amd 1:2016.
This standard is equivalent to ISO 8124-3:2020 Safety of Toys – Part 3: Migration of specific elements.
Compared with the previous version AS/NZS 8124.3:2012 and AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2012 Amd 1:2016, the main changes are as follows:
1. Two new detailed wax removal methods (cable extraction and solvent extraction) are added and replaced by the original method;
2. The method of elemental analysis is pointed out: ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS or other suitable methods can be used for elemental analysis, and an ICP-OES method is provided for reference.
3. The definition of “paper” and “board” has been changed: according to the new standard, cardstock or board with a mass of more than 400 g/m2 per unit area will apply the definition of “board”.
